As a nonprofit theater, The Paramount relies on community philanthropic support in addition to revenue from performances. With the loss of over $700,000 in revenue due to the cancellation or postponement of more than 100 events in the wake of the COVID-19 public health crisis, this pandemic has and will continue to take its toll on Charlottesville’s beloved historic Theater. Since 1931, The Paramount has served as an iconic landmark central to our historic downtown and through its mission to educate, enchant, enrich, and enlighten through the arts, the Theater serves as an important economic driver for our region. For those who itemize their deductions for charitable giving, the Act now allows 100% of contributions to be deducted from adjusted gross income. For those who don’t itemize, an additional $300 in charitable deductions is allowed.
